Nigeria’s fast-rising tennis sensation, Seun Ogunsakin, has made an impressive start at the 2026 Roland Garros junior qualifiers after defeating French opponent Lenny Couturier in straight sets on Thursday in Paris.
The Nigerian teenager secured a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory over the home favourite in a match that lasted about one hour and 30 minutes. Ogunsakin displayed confidence, composure, and resilience throughout the encounter to boost his chances of progressing into the main draw of the prestigious junior tournament.
The victory marks another major milestone for the young Nigerian player, who has continued to attract attention with his strong performances on the international junior tennis circuit in recent months. Earlier this month, Ogunsakin earned a spot in the French Open junior qualifying rounds, underlining his growing reputation in African tennis.

Tennis followers in Nigeria have praised the teenager’s rapid rise, with many seeing him as one of the country’s brightest prospects in the sport. His latest win at Roland Garros further strengthens hopes of a breakthrough performance on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments and is regarded as one of the toughest competitions in world tennis because of its clay-court surface.
